37 Online Marketing Experts share their Best Blogging Tools

I reached out to over 100 Bloggers asking them  3 Blogging Tools which they love to use. Over 37 blogging experts answered our question.

My favourite tool is Thrive Architect and online video maker tool, Lumen5. 🙂

Below are the list of blogging tools they recommended-

Searchmetrics – they make it easy to find what content out there is performing, how well and what I need to do to amplify that content to the right sites.

WordPress – This may sound obvious but it’s one of the best CMS systems out there for getting your content published online. I really recommend the tool “edit flow” when installing WordPress as it helps me keep my editing flow constant.

TinyTorch – This tool allows me as a blogger to create and publish the best photos out there that attract and engage my user base.

Longtailpro – an absolute must if you want to succeed quickly. The number reason most newbies fail is a lack of keyword research, and this tool solves that problem.

Ahrefs – An Ahrefs account is a must if you what to do link building. Knowing how your competitors get backlinks can help you steal them. Moreover, keeping track of your backlinks will contribute to estimating how many more backlinks do you need to rank for a keyword.

Grammarly – as a non-native English speaker, some errors are bound to sneak in my writing. But, Grammarly keeps most of them at bay. A free account can do wonders too to your writing !!

Google Keyword Tool – It’s free, shows me more data than I need and I can see what’s popular at the moment.

Google Analytics – Shows me everything I need to know about my site e.g. what posts work better, where traffic is coming etc. and you can really get to work and improve your site through this (I check this daily)

WordPress -I personally don’t know anyone who doesn’t work with WordPress anymore but I couldn’t see myself using anything else besides WordPress. It makes creating a blog so easy and I taught my dad how to create a blog (he’s turning 60 soon) and my uncle is next. This just shows the simplicity and efficiency a simple tool can bring these days!

Semrush– I used to use other keyword tools, but I love Semrush for the additional insights it gives you. For example, using Semrush + Forums can give you a fantastic insight into keywords that are easy to rank.

That’s just one of many different strategies I love to utilise Semrush for.

Trello-This is more of a project management tool, but the calendars and the way you can make cards related to one another make it a fantastic tool for content planning. I have a large number of things going on in my life, so my content manager and I can use Trello seamlessly to organise content and make sure it is consistently worked on.

Fotolia-Good content needs good images.

Grammarly – Since I generally use distraction-free writing on WP text board it helps me with resolving grammatical errors. The tool is great because as you start writing, it starts checking and gives you solution too.

SEO by Yoast – This tool needs no definition. Yoast is a must use tool for bloggers. It makes on-page SEO work like a charm.

BuzzSumo – This is the best tool if you are looking for headlines and articles that are getting maximum shares. Just choose the most shared headline and use it with your topic and I assure your post is gonna rock.

SumoMe-SumoMe is marketer’s dream. I use the Share, List Builder, Image Sharer, and Highlighter apps. The Share app places beautiful (and prominent) sharing buttons. Based on our testing, placing share buttons in multiple places on the page increases shares.

The List Builder app allows you to create custom lead gen popups. You can split test the popups to improve conversions. Image Sharer allows readers to share your images when they hover over them. Highlighter is a great tool for spreading your brand’s authority because people will highlight and share your content via social.

Leadpages-I use LeadPages for their awesome LeadBoxes and for creating landing pages for lead gen.

Pushcrew-This is a new tool I’ve been testing, and it’s money. We’ve seen more engagement from people who receive notifications via PushCrew than email.

Clicky – It’s an alternate of Google analytics I use to track daily blog traffic. The best part is, it’s UI is much more user-friendly than Google analytics as well as gives more data such as Heatmap, traffic direction, daily traffic change rate, etc. I do check up Clicky dashboard at least three times daily.

Rank Tracker – Just publishing contents and checking traffic is not enough, right? Therefore, I use Rank Tracker for checking the current ranking position of my blog for my targeted keywords. This one-time payment tool comes with SEO PowerSuite package. I love this tool because it has no recurring fee.

Dragon Naturally Speaking SoftwareThe one thing that I hate about blogging is how long it takes me to complete a post.  It isn’t that I’m slow while typing, I average around 60 WPM, but the problem is that even with my average typing speed it takes hours to complete a blog post.

My solution was to find software that allowed me to speak into a microphone that would type everything for me.  With that, I ended up purchasing Dragon software, and it makes me average around 180 WPM typing, and no that isn’t a misprint.  It’s a little awkward at first, but the best way to work through posts is to outline your main points, talk the whole thing through, and then proofread it once before publishing. This has saved me hours of time, and time is the most valuable asset of any blogger/business owner.

Ninja Outreach Getting your blog posts written is one thing, but sharing those blog posts with others is how your brand will grow.  It took me awhile to realise this and after publishing around 50 articles with very little traffic, I decided I needed to change my ways.

Now, whenever I publish a blog post, I use Ninja Outreach to quickly and easily contact others who might be interested in sharing it.  Many of them don’t, but when someone does it gives me a nice traffic spike that I wouldn’t have gotten otherwise.

Thrive ThemesPersonally, I’m a Thrive Themes fanatic.  The reason is that this platform doesn’t just theme, they have a content builder to quickly and easily design pages, as well as Thrive Leads which helps you get people to sign up to your email list.  I previously created a very in-depth Thrive Themes tutorial that shows everything they offer for those that aren’t familiar with the platform, but without this tool, I would be completely lost as I’m not a programmer.

  1. Keywords Everywhere – this is a chrome extension that allows me to do keyword research as I am searching within Google. It will tell me the volume of the keyword as well as spit out suggestions in the empty space to the left of the SERPs. It has been responsible for tons of content ideas generated.

  2. Ahrefs – this tools allows me to track the progress of my blogging campaigns and helps me generate ideas around ecommerce based on content that my competitors have had success with. I think most bloggers will agree this is a must for everyone.

  3. Grammarly – you can’t have blogging without writing and these days I cannot write without Grammarly. It has been responsible for making me a better writer and has uncovered mistakes I wouldn’t see in a million years in old pieces of content. This will helps my content flow better and it is a must to have on when I’m writing.

Photoshop– I’m using Photoshop from a long time, and I’m addicted to it now. It helps me to design any image with very less efforts.

Buffer- I’m very lazy to use any other social networking sites except for Facebook and Twitter, and without buffer, I couldn’t handle them all at once.

Ahrefs- Through Ahrefs I can keep track of my competitors and can copy their behind tricks a bit. That also helps me to get ahead of them many times.

SEMrush-This is my go-to keyword research tool. One of my favorite ways to utilize SEMrush is to find new keywords that similar sites within my niche are ranking for and then target these keywords in future content.

Ahrefs-Ahrefs handles all of my backlink research. From viewing my own website’s backlinks, to checking competitor backlinks, to checking new links in the past week, Ahrefs does it all. Bottom line, this is the only tool you need for link analysis and research.

BuzzSumo-I love BuzzSumo because it’s the best way to determine if an article topic is worth pursuing or not. All I have to do is search the article topic within BuzzSumo and it quickly shows how well similar articles in the past have performed. If I see a bunch of similar articles that have a large number of social shares, then I can be certain that this topic is one that people are interested in.

SumoMe-Noah Kagan, the founder of SumoMe, simply builds tools he needs on his
sites, and they simply work! SumoMe is a suite of tools
you can use, but our favourite is the List Builder tool. List Builder
makes it super simple to add a popup on your blog where you can offer
an e-book, report or just a newsletter and easily collect an email
address and first name. It offers quick integration with a lot of

It offers quick integration with a lot of
email list services, and you can choose from a bunch of beautiful
templates.

Yoast SEO-Bloggers love to worry and drive themselves crazy about search engine
optimisation and always wonder if their posts are keyword-rich. Adding
the Yoast SEO plugin makes it very easy to make the titles, content
and metadata of your blog posts friendly to Google and Bing without
having to put too much thought into the process. We installed the
plugin and then just fill out the fields for each post we write.

After Offers-OK, this one is a bit self-serving, but it truly is a terrific tool for
adding a passive income source to your blog. After someone signs up
for your email newsletter, the user is offered other newsletters they
might like too. You get paid every time they choose one. It’s an easy
way to get an automatic deposit into your Paypal account every

make.

Books – most of the inspiration I get comes from books I am reading. Books are just such great value. If you take away just a couple of points from each book you read the few hours of input and the low entry price makes them the best tool for all aspiring bloggers seeking inspiration.

Audio Books – this is an expansion of #1 but an important one. As a business owner, husband, parent and gigging SEO I am short on time. So reading can be a slow process. To aid with this I will listen to books on my drive to and from the office each day. This means I can usually get through a book a week as I travel.

Podcasts – these are another great way of getting a large does of inspiration in a relatively short window. I listen to a wide range of podcasts from RadioLab to Tim Ferris. You get access to the thought process of some great thinkers like this and whilst I will often use this as a way to get new books to read it still helps keep my inspired and never, ever short of ideas. Often, podcasts give me inspiration for books so there is a cyclic thing going on here.

For keyword research, I use Google Keyword Planner and take a suggestion from SEOBook Keyword Suggestion Tool. Here is a precise keyword research guide from where you can learn to find profitable long-tail keywords.

For Analysing the keywords of my own website, Google webmasters is the best fit and to analyse competitors keywords I prefer Rank Signals. It gives an accurate idea of the backlinks built by your competitors.

For tracking the analytics, there is no other tool which can beat google analytics. These tools are enough to take your blogs to new heights.

There are tools like SEMRush which makes your work easy but it is not for everyone.

WordPressSeriously, I live in WordPress.  Who doesn’t?

PicMonkey-This is the easiest tool I know for creating custom images that are actually shareable, with text overlays, such as the ones you’ll see on my blog.

Read-ablethis tells me if I am using too many big words or running on with too many long sentences.  It’s a blogger’s best friend.

Buzzsumo-It helps me find the best performing content and influencers who share that particular kind of content. I use it to guest posting where I get to understand what kind of content the blog’s audience tends to share the most.

Moz Open Site Explorer-I take SEO seriously and only contribute to high DA blogs. Open Site Explorer helps me find out the DA of each blog. Higher than 30+ DA being a good starting point for me.

Ahrefs-When it comes to link building. Ahrefs is the go-to tool for finding blogs that are linking to competitors. The way I use it is, I create a skyscraper blog post that’s better than the top 10 posts out there and then once the post goes live I email all blogs that are linking to those 10 posts notifying them that I created a more in depth post.

AHREFs-It’s packed with features that can help out any blogger – from top content ideas (similar to Buzzsumo), research competitors of similar topics, and more. I like to use it to understand how competitive a phrase might be that I am basing my content around.

They also just added a new feature where you can find keyword phrases of competitors that you are not already ranking for. With this data, you can identify content gaps on your site in writing about.

OptinMonster –For me, it’s important to convert readers of your blog into newsletter subscribers through forms or content upgrades. My tool of choice is OptinMonster. They have a wide range of forms to use and can sync up with nearly every autoresponder. I use it on all my sites, and it is a must-have for serious bloggers.

Bulkly-I might be a bit biased since I created it, but if you are looking to get the most out of your evergreen content on social media, it’s worth adding to your toolbox. With it, you can add your content to it and create a never-ending queue of social media updates that get sent to your Buffer account on an ongoing basis.

No need to re-add your content to your Buffer queue when Bulkly will do it for you automatically.

I use Social Warfare plugin to make the tweetable quotes from my roundups. It’s a premium plugin but it has many benefits that make it worth the price. You can add custom images of different sizes, which makes it particularly useful for Pinterest, Google+ and Twitter.

Another tool that I like to use a lot is Canva. You can customise and brand all your images for social media and for blog posts. I use it to make the collages that I include in my expert roundups. It’s a free tool that gives you many options and templates. You can see an example of a group photo that I made on canva for my last roundup here.

Another tool I’d highly recommend, and regularly use, is Buffer to schedule my tweets. I share my posts on a regular basis including those that I make for clients and also posts where I am featured as an expert, like this one.

WordPress: When I think of my favourite blogging tool, one word comes to my mind: WordPress. I consider WordPress the best investment a business can make to help promote its products and services. WordPress is the best content foundation for your online marketing efforts. It integrates well with all of the other tools you’ll need to promote your business.

Google Keyword Planner & Long Tail Pro: Every time you go to create new content, you will need to do some keyword research to find searchable terms to include in your writing. The importance of good keyword research cannot be overemphasised. Analysing keywords and phrases that your target market will run through Google or other search engines to find the service or content your blog provides.

Rather than try to make a lot of random guesses, you can use a web tool like Google Keyword Planner or Long Tail Pro. Both analyse search traffic on the major search engines and then give you a list of the most popular terms. Both apps are excellent, but if you would like more information and better results filtering, Long Tail Pro is the better web tool.

Grammarly: This is a popular tool, but one that is helpful for making sure your blog post has perfect grammar and sentence structure. Grammarly highlights any and all grammar mistakes automatically no matter where you are typing online. It’s spared me from humiliating missteps on countless occasions.

SEMrushI’ve been using this for over a year now and I’m fully satisfied with the results. I can find golden keywords, estimate any website’s traffic, find and fix my site issues, spy on my competition and I can do pretty much anything with it.

WordPress SEO by YoastIt’s another incredible tool (Free plugin) that lets you optimise your pages for specific keywords. Even if you are a newbie, it’s easier to use and grow your search traffic.

GetResponse– Email list is the key to most bloggers, and I use the most easiest and effective autoresponder software called GetResponse. It has everything. You can create landing pages, email lists, webinars, etc. Highly recommended!

GrammarlyEnglish is not my native language. So, Grammarly helps me out with proof-reading, spellings, punctuation and grammar.

AhrefsWell, this tool never lets me gave up on it! Whenever I want to examine a backlink profile, I simply use Ahrefs. It provides a clear report which is easily examinable. This tool simply make the life easy by allowing number of things, such as:

-Compare your link profile with 4 competitors
-Data Export
-Broken Links Searching

There is much more to it which I can’t explain here.

SEMRushThis tool made the Keyword Research extremely easy. When you are done choosing your niche, simply enter a domain of your competitor and it will come up with a list of keywords your competitor is ranking on. Although, Ahrefs do the most of it, but whenever I go for keyword research, I used to search on SEMRush first!

SumoMe’s simple & easy to use a collection of blogging tools that have proven themselves many times over. With mix and match options for different tools, even the free versions have the power to make your blog skyrocket like no other tools I’ve seen before.

Semrush-Last but not least, SEMRush is an incredible tool to have if you are really serious about growing your site. It can seem a little pricey for new bloggers, but it will show you the most direct path to success as you spy on your competitors!

WordPress – This one is just a slam dunk. If you’re blogging or writing on anything other than WordPress, you’re going to really struggle to stand out or be found organically via search.

Buffer – I want to reach my audience and that means creating content on my blog.  But trying to then share that content on social media at all times of the day can seem daunting.  You want to be a blogger, not a professional social media poster.  For me, everything changed when I found Buffer and started scheduling my social media posts. Schedule ahead, and then respond in real-time as the responses come in.

Smart Podcast Player – The Smart Podcast Player (SPP) is the best way I’ve found to host my podcast on my blog.  The engagement with the SPP is really high and it looks beautiful on mobile and desktop (which is super important for me).  With more bloggers repurposing their content as podcasts, I highly recommend it.

Google Keyword Planner– Most probably we all know Google Keyword Planner from Google itself. I am using “Keyword Planner” from the 1st day of my blogging journey. Anyone can get traffic estimation of any target Keywords and also helps to find more relevant and related Keywords for your niche. Here one thing to be noted that this tool is created by Google to target AdWords advertisers, but it gives great information when it requires to finding the right keyword for any blog and articles.

Google Webmaster– It is another free tool from Google itself which allows you to communicate with Google. By using this tool you can easily understand how Google sees your site such as list the external and internal links to your site, adjust the crawl rate at which Google bot indexes your site, check the keywords users typed to land on your site, as well as the click through rate for each keyword, see your site’s statistics and many more.

SEO Profiler– It is an all in one web based SEO tool. SEO Profiler has many different modules that can show you what is currently wrong with your website that is stopping you from getting top rankings.

A) Create Your SEO Reports: – This tool is very helpful to make your SEO reports. You just need to put target keyword and the website you want to improve & it will show you everything you need to do to get your article on Page.

B) Reverse Engineer Your Competition: – With SEO profiler you can instantly see exactly where your competitors are getting there links from and what are their best keywords.

C) Social Media Checker: – The social media checker will show you exactly how many times people have Tweeted, Facebook and Google Plus the content on that website. You can also find out how many social signals your own website has.

I love this tool because of the fact that it tells me the strength of the pages ranking on the first page of Google for my target keywords judging by their domain and page authority and also the total number of backlinks they have.
